On October 24, Kharkiv’s largest Ukrainian Eastern Film Festival opens in Kharkiv within the Weeks of Germany – MeetDocs Eastern Ukrainian Film Festival. It will be held for the second time, and this year has strayed from the strict relationship with the documentary genre.
In the program of the festival: 21 feature films (films of the Berlin Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival winners, future Oscar contenders) and other paintings from Ukraine, Germany, Israel, USA, Poland , UK. This year we have 1 Ukrainian festival premiere, 7 Ukrainian national premieres and 4 Kharkov premieres, a retrospective program and special shows.
“I have to say it is a social cinema festival,” Yevgeniya Kriegsheim told the audience during the opening ceremony of Kharkiv MeetDocs International Film Festival.
The importance of the festival for both countries was also emphasized by the General Consul in Donetsk (office in Dnipro) Wolfgang Mössinger: “The fact that the festival is taking place not in the capital but in Kharkiv is very important for the region as well as for Ukraine in general. We have been able to support more than 200 projects in different cities and regions, all of which focus on the development of local initiatives, democracy and civil society. A festival with his films on the most important topics is just such a project. Watching the progress of his and other Ukrainian projects, I feel much more optimistic than pessimistic. ”
