White winter blizzard covers everything. We can rely now only on saints, on our prayers. The future has sailed away, with us left behind. Astray, we did not board the magic ship. The task at hand is simple – not to perish in the fog, not to die from the cold, not to get trapped under the ice. Not to fall in our own snares. Or are we all in one big trap anyway? Running around in a small circle, counting those who vanished.
Oleksandr Techynskyi’s directorial debut took place in 2013 with the short documentary film “Sirs and Seniors”. The tape was shot in Uman during the Hasidic pilgrimage for Rosh Hashanah, when people flock to the city to work as porters of the numerous luggage brought by foreigners and earn several months’ salary for the four days of the celebration.
In 2014, the documentary almanac “Euromaidan. Rough montage”, shot by 10 directors of the Babylon’13 initiative, including Techynskyi. The tape is dedicated to the historical revolutionary events in Ukraine in 2013-2014. It became the opening film of the Docudays UA international film festival in March 2014.
In 2014, the film “Everything is Burning” co-authored with Oleksiy Solodunov and Dmytro Stoykov was also released. Dedicated to Euromaidan, it shows the confrontation from the epicenter of the conflict and follows how it changes its character from a peaceful protest to bloody clashes. They shot the tape from different sides: security forces, protesters and from a neutral side. The picture was included in the long list of nominees for the European Film Prize 2015 in the category of the best documentary[3]. Some episodes of the tape were also included in the Euromaidan project. Rough editing”.
In 2017, the full-length documentary “Delta” was released, the world premiere of which took place at the 60th DOK Leipzig Documentary and Animation Film Festival, where the film received an honorable mention. The picture tells about the life of the people in the town of Vylkovo on the Danube, which revolves around fishing and collecting reeds.
